Careers in Sociology

Sociology is a division of social science. A social scientist has to observe and analysis methods for developing and refining the knowledge associated with social activity and organization. Sociology is a vast discipline in respect to both methodology and subject matter. It focuses on social stratification, social relations, culture and deviance, social interaction and its approaches have included both qualitative and quantitative research techniques.

Social science study includes the study of communication studies, anthropology, political science, history, geography, psychology and sociology.

Basic Eligibility

UG:
For admission in a bachelor’s degree, the candidate must have passed the higher secondary school certificate (Std.XII) examination from a recognized board. The duration for bachelor's degree is three years.

PG:
The eligibility criterion for pursuing a master’s degree is holding a graduation degree in any stream. The duration for master's degree is two years.

Job Prospects
A sociology graduate can have opportunities in extensive variety of jobs related to government, non-profit, and private sector. Many research jobs are also available for sociology graduates. Other then this they can join private and public education institutes as faculty members. Sociology offers good career opportunities in NGO’s of private and public sector units.

Remuneration: -

A fresher can start with a salary in a range of Rs. 8,000 to Rs.10,000  per month. Those who are working for NGOs also have similar pay structures.

People working in  industries and corporate houses can expect higher salaries. Salary and perks are higher in case of the international NGO’s.

  2. These days, sociology has become one of the most challenging fields to work in. I would like to thank the author of this post for highlighting upon sociology and the various career opportunities it provides.
