Careers in arts


Arts/Humanities are one of the oldest subjects in traditional streams across India. Categories available in arts stream are Visual Arts, Performing Arts (Music), Philosophy, Law, Religion, Ancient as well as Modern languages, Literature and History.

Many subjects that are considered as social science subjects are mixed with humanities, like communication studies, area studies, cultural studies, and linguistics. Excellent communication skills, precise writing and understanding of subject is always an advantage for them who want to make a career in the field of arts.

Basic Eligibility

UG:
  • For admission in graduate programe once should pass 10+2 from an affiliated school or educational board in any stream i.e. Arts, Commerce or Science.
PG:
  • For Post Graduate Degree one should have completed bachelor’s degree in respective subject. For admission in reputed colleges one should pass the entrance exam of the college.
Specializations

Bachelor of Arts :-
Bachelor of Arts (B.A program), is offered in  either the liberal arts, the sciences, or both. This program is generally of three years duration.

Master of Arts :-
Master of Arts Degree is usually a two years program available in various subjects including various languages such as Hindi English, and other regional languages and foreign languages.
Masters Degree in Arts is offered by  various Indian Universities. Master of Arts course is also available through Distance Education.

Job Prospects

Talent and skills matters a lot for an art graduate. An art’s graduate can build a career in following fields :-
Teaching,  research, internal communications, writing , program planning, public relations, policy research and analysis, management, information administration, social work,. One can look for making career in the fields of anthropology, agriculture, journalism, archaeology, geography, NGO, industrial relation, philosophy, research assistance, library science, liberal arts, psychology, and many more.

Remuneration :-

Arts students can earn in between Rs 10000 – Rs 12000 at the beginning stage. With the experience and knowledge their salaries increases.

  4. I would like to thank the author of this post for throwing light on Arts & Humanities as a discipline. The author also mentions the various fields under humanities and its job prospects. The post also mentions a list of colleges that offer the best arts and humanities courses. To this list, I would like to add CMR University, Bangalore. The School of Social Sciences and Humanities offers a plethora of courses to those who are interested in making a career in arts.
