Career in Accessory Designing


Accessory designing is an emerging sector in India and offers a lot of opportunities to youngsters. The main task of an accessory designer is to create accessories such as jewellery, glass products leatherwear (belts, handbags, buckles, gloves), footwear, watches, giftware, scarves, tableware, silverware and many other lifestyle items. An accessory designer imagine and creates designs for jewelry, handbags, ties, belts, shoes, hats, gloves, etc. to go with clothing.

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum eligibility to join a diploma course in accessory design is 10+2 in any stream.  Under graduate,diploma and certificate courses in lifestyle accessories designing are offered across many institutes in India. The course length differs between 1-4 years depending upon the courses and institutes which offer it.
For post graduate courses, graduation in the related stream is must. Few Post-graduate courses are available in limited number of institutes across India.

Fresh graduates from this field can start their career with a salary of Rs. 12,000 to 15,000 per month, depending upon the nature of their employer. Salary in this field increases with experience. JAM 2013, IISc & IIT’s Joint Admission Test for MSc


Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) conduct a Joint Admission Test for M.Sc. (JAM). Recently Indian Institute of Science Bangalore has also joined the IITs in the conduct of this test. The objective of JAM is to provide admissions to various M.Sc., Joint M.Sc.-Ph.D., M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree and other post graduates programmes at the IITs based on the performance in a single test.

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2013

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all India examination that tests a comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in engineering and technology. GATE is conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science and seven IITs (IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras and IIT Roorkee) on behalf of the National Coordination Board – GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India.
The GATE score is used for admissions to post-graduate engineering programmes like (M.E., M.Tech, direct Ph.D) in Indian higher education institutes with financial assistance provided by MHRD and other government agencies
